Katarina started skating at age five. old. Then, her talents became apparent, and at the age of Karl-Marx-Stadt she entered an institution specifically designed for children who have athletic talents. The coach Jutta was also there. Witt achieved her breakthrough by finishing second in the 1982 World Championships, held in Copenhagen. Since then her elegance and grace captured the eye of all. Her dominance began in this sport. Olympic victory Katarina Wit was awarded gold medals in the women's ice skaters during the Sarajevo Winter Games 1984 after an intensely competitive contest. She won a much closer contest four years later. Actually, she was not a winner in the free skating contest but she did win gold on the basis of performances during the compulsory short and figure programme. Witt became the first woman to take home a gold medal in both the men's and women's figure-skating competitions since Sonja Hiene. Hall of Fame Witt, who had achieved success in the film industry acting, then returned for figure skating, competed in the Lillehammer Winter Games 1994. People were captivated by her despite the fact that she only placed seventh. Witt got her induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1995.
